From the Maine State Police:

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at approximately 3:00 pm, Maine State Police Central Field Troop, MSP Commercial Vehicle Unit, MSP Crash Reconstruction Unit, Maine State Fire Marshalls, Belgrade Fire and Rescue, and Delta Ambulance, responded to a three vehicle crash on Smithfield Road in Belgrade. A school bus from Regional School District 18 was stopped southbound on Route 8 near the intersection of Arcadia Cove Road, letting children off the bus with its Stop Lights activated when it was struck from behind. A Dodge Grand Caravan, operated by 24-year-old Michael Grier Jr. of Belgrade rear-ended a Ford Fusion operated by 45-year-old Kristen Carlson of Belgrade. Carlson was stopped legally behind the bus when her vehicle was struck by the Dodge Grand Caravan. The momentum of the Dodge Grand Caravan slamming into the rear end of the Ford Fusion, pushed the Fusion into the rear of the bus, where it became wedged beneath the bus. The occupants of the Fusion were transported to the hospital for evaluation and were later released. The driver and passenger of the Grand Caravan were not injured. There were six children and one operator inside the bus, all were assessed by rescue personnel and medically cleared. All parents were notified by school district staff.
