In December last year four people were killed and three were injured in a single vehicle crash in Castine. All were Maine Maritime Academy students. Now an indictment has been handed out.

From the Maine State Police:

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, at approximately 2:00 am, Maine State Police Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Shore Rd (Route 166) in Castine. The driver of the vehicle 20-year-old Joshua Goncalves-Radding of North Babylon, NY was traveling south on Rt. 166 along with six passengers when the 2013 Range Rover he was driving left the road and struck a tree before erupting into flames.  As a result of the crash, three people were injured and four people were killed. The deceased are 20-year-old Brian Kenealy of York, Maine, 21-year-old Chase Fossett of Gardiner, Maine, 22-year-old Luke Simpson of Rockport, Massachusetts, and 20-year-old Riley Ignacio-Cameron of Aquinnah, Massachusetts. All seven
occupants were identified as Maine Maritime Academy Students.

After an extensive investigation, it was determined that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The case was submitted to the Hancock County District Attorney’s Office where it was reviewed. After the District Attorney’s review and consultation with the investigating Troopers, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle Mr. Goncalves-Radding would be charged with four counts of Manslaughter, five counts of Aggravated OUI, two counts of Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, three counts of Driving to Endanger, one count each of Criminal Speed, Forgery, and Unlawful Use of a License.

Mr. Goncalves-Radding was indicted on all counts by a Hancock County Grand Jury on Thursday, April 6, 2023, and a judge accepted those indictments on Friday, April 7, 2023. Mr. Goncalves-Radding will be formally charged at a later date.

The Maine State Police recognizes the significant impact this crash has had on the Maine Maritime Academy, the community, and friends and family of those who were injured and killed. Our thoughts remain with all those who have been greatly impacted by this enormous loss.
