First of all, I have to admit, I’ve been away from American Idol (and tv in general, other than ID) for so long that I had never heard of a “platinum ticket,” but Julia Gagnon got one last night on American Idol! She was the FINAL ONE this season to get it!

She first came to local attention when she competed in and won Central Maine Idol at the Quarry Tap Room in Hallowell.

If we’re being completely accurate, the headline should be from Guatemala to Cumberland to Hallowell to Hollywood!

Julia Gagnon was adopted from an orphanage in Guatemala when she was two-years-old by a couple from Cumberland.

Her birth mom, Sara, gave her up so she could have better opportunities. Indeed, she has.

She has been in touch with Sara who wants to see her daughter do “something big.”

Today, she’s undoubtedly proud and happy for Julia.

Here’s her story and her amazing rendition of an Aretha Franklin song, which blew the judges away…especially, it would seem, Lionel Richie!
