Craig Pelkey, 53, and Sarah Denbow, 37, both of Bangor were arrested today, June 16, and charged with trafficking in fentanyl. Seized as part of this investigation was nearly 1.5 pounds of fentanyl.
MDEA agents of the Bangor-based North Central Task Force, have for the past several months been investigating a group believed to be responsible for the distribution of fentanyl from an apartment building located at the corner of Warren and Sanford Street in Bangor. The investigation was initiated, in large part, due to a number of complaints from the neighborhood relating to suspected drug trafficking.
During the evening hours of June 15, agents developed sufficient information to obtain a search warrant for the Warren Street apartment where Pelkey and Denbow lived. This warrant was executed in the early morning hours of June 16, 2021. Discovered during the search was approximately 1.5 pounds of suspected fentanyl and other evidence consistent with illicit drug trafficking. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $67,000.
Both Pelkey and Denbow were charged with Class “A” Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (fentanyl). These charges were aggravated due to the quantity of the drugs seized. Additionally, the Warren Street apartment is less than 1000 feet of a City of Bangor park designated under the law as a “Drug Free Safe Zone.” In addition, Denbow was charged with Violations of Conditions of Release because of the fact that she was out on bail stemming from a 2020 aggravated drug trafficking arrest in Bangor which is has not yet been adjudicated.
Both Pelkey and Denbow were transported to the Penobscot County Jail. Bail on Pelkey was set by the court at $80,000 in cash. Denbow is being held with no bail due to the fact that she was already out on bail.
This investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.
