One person is dead after a crash in Sidney yesterday (Oct. 2) afternoon.

Maine State Police responded to the report of a single-vehicle crash on I-95 northbound at mile 116 in Sidney. The preliminary investigation suggests that the orange 2005 Honda Element utility vehicle was traveling north in the right lane during a rainstorm.

Witnesses stated that the vehicle suddenly crossed into the passing lane, went off the roadway into the grassy median where it side-swiped a tree with the passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver, Nicholas Caron, 18, of Bangor, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics on scene. The vehicle sustained massive passenger side and top damage. Both airbags deployed and the driver was wearing his seatbelt.

Maine Department of Transportation, Sidney Fire Dept., and Delta Ambulance responded to the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.
