The Christmas Week Storm of ’23 Brings Back Memories of the ’87 Flood (Video + Pics)

When I asked for photos of people’s experiences from the storm that hit Maine on December 18th, I had not idea how many I’d get or what I’d see. I was shocked!
One of my most vivid memories of ’87 was Gardiner Hannaford, when I lived across the river in Randolph.
The store was flooded to near the ceiling and people were canoeing inside the building. The supermarket, ultimately, was gutted and rebuilt.
Also in that plaza was a standalone state liquor store. Thieves took care of all the booze.
Using Facebook exclusively to gather images, I was overwhelmed with submissions to both my timeline and inbox. There is no way I can share them all but I’ve chosen a good sample….some from professional photographers and drone pilots. I have credited those who I know are pros. Others, I’ve used only first names.
If you are due credit and don’t see it in here, email me at Jon@MixMaine.com and I will do my best to fix it.
