Last night, March 15, crews from several towns responded to a fire at 322 East Side Road on Verona Island.

From the Maine State Police:

There were three people home at the time of the fire. Two people, including the homeowner were able to get out of the home safely. The third person, 68 year Terrance Leach of Prospect did not survive. Leach was staying at the residence as a guest.

An autopsy was conducted today. There are no indications of foul play. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Terrance Leach was the homeowner of a Rt. One residence that was destroyed by fire Tuesday, March 14, 2023 in Prospect. Because of that fire, Mr. Leach went to stay at a friend’s residence on the East Side Road on Verona Island. The cause of the Prospect fire was accidental. Mr. Leach was smoking while using a home oxygen tank.
